Threatened Species Day

On the 7 September in 1936, the last Thylacine (or Tasmanian Tiger) died in Hobart Zoo. The 7th September is now Threatened Species Day, and a good time to refelect on the number of threatened species that we have in Australia

  • There are 1776 threatened species in Australia
  • 50% of these are endangered or critically endangered
  • Plant life makes up 73% of endangered species
